SUMMARY:Stars
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe first public show at the Emera Astronomy Center brings unparalleled visual immersion and excitement. Be one of the first people to see the universe come to life right before your eyes! \nEvery star has a story. Some are as old as time\, faint and almost forgotten. Others burn bright and end their lives in powerful explosions. New stars are created every day\, born of vast clouds of gas and dust. Through every phase of their existence\, stars release the energy that lights the Universe. Journey to the furthest reaches of our galaxy and experience both the awesome beauty and destructive power of stars. Narrated by Mark Hamill. \nAges 5 to adult

SUMMARY:Earth\, Moon\, and Sun
DESCRIPTION:This first standards-based elementary show for full dome beautifully illustrates basic concepts like moon phases and seasons with the dubious help of Coyote. Based on the trickster of Native American lore\, Coyote is constantly corrected in his misunderstandings of how things work. A live tour of the Maine sky and its beautiful constellations completes this micro-unit of astronomy. \nAges 4 to 11

SUMMARY:The Geminid Meteor Shower
DESCRIPTION:The Geminids can be observed annually between December 4 and December 17\, with its peak activity being around December 14. The shower owes its name to the constellation Gemini from where the meteors seem to emerge from in the sky. \nUnlike most other meteor showers\, the Geminids are associated not with a comet but with an asteroid – the 3200 Phaethon. The asteroid takes about 1.4 years to orbit around the Sun. \nThe Geminids are considered to be one of the more spectacular meteor shower during a year\, with the possibility of sighting around 120 meteors per hour at its peak. \nWhere to view\nThe Geminids can be observed from locations all around the world. \nWhile it is not necessary to look in a particular direction to enjoy a meteor shower – just lay down on the ground and look directly above and you are bound to see some meteors – astronomers suggest lying down on the ground looking towards the South and look at the sky above you to view the Leonids. \nWhen to view\nThe best time to view the Geminids between 9 p.m. (21:00) and before dusk. \nHow to view\nThere isn’t a lot of skill involved in watching a meteor shower. Here are some tips on how to maximize your time looking for the Geminids: \n\nGet out of the city to a place where city and artificial lights do not impede your viewing\nIf you are out viewing the shower during its peak\, you will not need any special equipment. You should be able to see the shower with your naked eyes.\nCarry a blanket or a comfortable chair with you – viewing meteors\, just like any other kind of star gazing is a waiting game\, and you need to be comfortable. Plus\, you may not want to leave until you can’t see the majestic celestial fireworks anymore.\nCheck the weather and moonrise and moonset timings for your location before you leave\, and plan your viewing around it.

SUMMARY:Earth\, Moon\, & Sun
DESCRIPTION:Earth\, Moon\, & Sun is a fast-paced full dome demonstration of lunar phases\, eclipses\, day and night\, the sun and other puzzling events with the help of a confused coyote. This program beautifully illustrates basic concepts like moon phases and seasons. Based on the trickster of Native American lore\, Coyote is constantly corrected in his misunderstandings of how things work. A live tour of the Maine sky and its beautiful constellations completes this micro-unit of astronomy.
