Astronomy Center Open House

cropped-DSC_9550.jpgThe University of Maine’s newest building is full of exciting and educational adventures for visitors of all ages. Be the first to see all that is in store with hands on demonstrations, planetarium shows, free refreshments, and the first public star party at the new Jordan Observatory! Find out what makes the Emera Astronomy Center an exciting resource for both the UMaine astronomy program and the community!

If the skies are clear the observatory will host a star party from 7 to 10 pm on Friday and the planetarium open house will be from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday.

Activities:

  • Free demonstration shows inside the largest planetarium dome in the state of Maine
  • Hands on activities featuring Exoplanets, spacecraft, the light spectrum, and more
  • Tours of the new Maynard F. Jordan Observatory where visitors can see the largest telescope in Maine
  • A star party after sunset (weather permitting) where Astronomy Center staff and amateur astronomer will have telescopes set up and pointing at anything and everything in the night sky.
