Cosmogenesis: The Story of Us

November 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Lotus, a 19-year-old dance student on a quest for meaning, struggles as she witnesses
the world around her falling apart.  On the brink of giving up on college, she meets a
mentor who introduces her to the 13.8 billion year scientific story of the Cosmos.
Lotus discovers a unique capacity to see back in time prompting her to contemplate her
place in the Universe. While Lotus’ philosophy poet peer-group cracks the code on
every current issue concerning humanity, Lotus feels the call of a reoccurring dream she
has of a dark-haired woman galloping on horseback under the Milky Way.
Created as a collaboration between University of Colorado Boulder’s Fiske Planetarium
and Colorado University’s Theater & Dance Department, together with a local playwright
Rebecca Sophia Strong, and local musicians it is a cultural program that integrates
traditional stage theater with digital planetarium imagery.
This artist driven project inextricably links the arts, science and technology and is a
response to the growing sense of globalized anxiety in young adults due to racism,
climate change and a lack of a sense of belonging – we aim to inspire hope and agency
in young people.
